What is Bone Broth?
Bone broth has so many positive benefits.
Bone broth or stock is a liquid made from boiling animal bones and connective tissue for a long period of time.
Benefits of Bone Broth
Bones are loaded with vitamins and nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. When cooking bones for a long period of time you are also cooking down all the nutrients in the cartilage as well.
Tissues and bones also contain collagen. Cooking collagen turns it to gelatin, which provides the body with amino acids, building blocks of proteins, which aids with skin health.
In addition, cooking down bones breaks down the bone marrow. Bone marrow is full of nutrients like iron, vitamin A and K, fatty acids, zinc and manganese.
How to Make Bone Broth
I simply season and roast my bones. I like to use beef neck bones and marrow bones or knuckles in the same batch. After roasting, I cover the bones with water and set the crock pot on high for the entire day.
